Video: Making poor decisions in Romance of the Three Kingdoms XIII

It’s been a while since the last Romance of the Three Kingdoms game showed up over here, so it seems like a good time to check in and see how the newest game plays! Oh, and to make a series of reckless choices that lead us to ruin. Or ruins, as the case may be.

The Romance of the Three Kingdoms series has long been a mainstay of the Japanese game scene, known for its sheer depth and punishing difficulty. Koei’s been making these games for over 30 years, and it shows in just how many layers are here in this newest release. It’s long showed more of a similarity to the PC game scene, despite its many appearances on consoles; we’re playing here on PS4, but you can see how the interface may be a lot more navigable with a mouse and at home around Total War more than Valkyria Chronicles.

Also: we are not good at this game. But that doesn’t mean we can’t have fun! Watch as we run Michibiko’s career into the ground with some truly misguided moves.

Topics include: Big numbers, Everybody Wang Zhong Tonight, ill-advised revolts, debate tactics, a pile of smoking ruins to call our own, an appeal for surrender.
