Video: Downtown Nekketsu Jidaigeki takes Kunio to the past!

Natsume recently announced it’s bringing a Kunio-kun 3DS game to the West, renewing hopes for series fans across the English-speaking world and following the appearance of River City Super Sports Challenge. That said, we’ll never get all of the releases in the franchise. Downtown Nekketsu Jidaigeki is definitely one of the unlikelier prospects, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t fun!

This game follows Edo-era counterparts of Kunio and friends as they follow a tale filled with punch-heavy samurai combat and synthesized takes on traditional Japanese music. If you’ve played any game with Kunio, like River City Ransom or Crash ‘n’ the Boys, you likely know what to expect: button combos, items to swing and throw and a bunch of people with square heads.

Check out the video for a good look at the early single-player stages and an overview of the multiplayer battle arena options! Also there’s that time we pretend to be running some sort of cart-pushing business.

Topics include: Gender ratios, tree trunk throwing techniques, cool hats, cart life, battle royale with cheese, multiplicity.
