The Fire Emblem games released in recent years tend to remain rather consistent. Each installment has gameplay that follows a similar pattern. You take on a map with enemies. You either escape the map or fulfill certain conditions to win. Weapons can be acquired as a reward after defeating a foe, from opening a chest or by stopping at a shop. There is always a weapon triangle, to help you determine which units to send against others. But some titles stood out for being different. Fire Emblem Gaiden was one, but no game went against the grain more than Fire Emblem: Thracia 776. This is a game that takes chances, forcing you to take chances too.

There are a lot of animal-people in the Fire Emblem series! These are different races who transform into actual animals in battle, while occasionally maintaining some of these features while in their humanoid forms. Hearing about laguz or taguel can be confusing, especially since these races are not universal and may only be present in a few select entries.

Fire Emblem Heroes is a strategy game that will only get bigger as time goes on. If you include remakes, there are currently 15 games available. Are you a fan of the earlier Fire Emblem games? Those were the work of Shouzou Kaga, who left after the Super NES days and made two games with Enterbrain: Tear Ring Saga and Berwick Saga. The first game is very similar to its predecessor, but this second title brings its own ideas. Like a hex grid!

I’ve been playing Fire Emblem Fates and something rather interesting struck me. It seems as though Intelligent Systems may have a particular pairing in mind when it comes to characters. I’m talking about Corrin and Kaze. It seems as though the female version of the avatar is destined for Kaze.

I’ll admit, that statement isn’t totally accurate. The segments in Fire Emblem Fates where you visit your castle, head to your treehouse home and touch your allies does have some merit. Patting their heads, stroking their cheeks and rubbing their chests makes them happy.
