Otome games are great, but many of the titles getting localized are visual novels. While reading is also pretty amazing, sometimes you don’t want to spend your time reading thousands of words on route to romancing a digital dude. Sometimes, you want a little more stimulation while searching for the (virtual) one.

I’ve been playing Fire Emblem Fates and something rather interesting struck me. It seems as though Intelligent Systems may have a particular pairing in mind when it comes to characters. I’m talking about Corrin and Kaze. It seems as though the female version of the avatar is destined for Kaze.

I’ll admit, that statement isn’t totally accurate. The segments in Fire Emblem Fates where you visit your castle, head to your treehouse home and touch your allies does have some merit. Patting their heads, stroking their cheeks and rubbing their chests makes them happy.

Fire Emblem Awakening’s DLC maps were a lot like most games. There were the easy-grind levels, the super-hard challenges and the fan-pandering silly stages. “Summer Scramble” was the worst of them all in this respect, a battle seemingly existing just as a delivery mechanism for art of a few selected characters in swimsuits.

Fire Emblem Fates, or Fire Emblem If as it’s known in Japan, is an incredibly deep and content-rich game. There are so many maps and units and buildings and weapons and… yeah. It can make your head spin. In a good way, maybe? In this video, Jenni and I check out the My Castle functions and battles late into the game’s Hoshido campaign, and generally marvel at the depth and scenery.
