Not all games release in the West, a sad fact with which we’re all too familiar. That doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy some choice imports! We are, as always, here to help. We’ve picked the five best games to import, ones that you aren’t too likely to see localized but are fun enough to go through the trouble of playing anyway.

Michibiku is a site about Japanese games, so, you know, we like RPGs around here. And 2016 was an interesting year for them! Among the blockbusters were some real niche gems, and these are the ones you should set aside those hefty hour counts to play.

There weren’t too many games that got our toes tapping this year. But, the ones that did appear brought us plenty of “Satisfaction” and “Tap Trials.” These two brought the joy of music to our systems this year, while also leaving us with more than a few great songs stuck in our heads.

Was Frank Sinatra right? Is love lovelier the second time around? When it comes to these rereleases, that statement is absolutely true. I mean, we certainly enjoyed playing all three of these classic games again.

Puzzle games had a truly great year — on the 3DS, and only the 3DS — and solidified the role of the genre as the reigning champions of the short burst. None of the best games were made specifically for longer play, but all are addicting enough to warrant consecutive plays when circumstances warrant it. Anyway, let’s get to our choices!

It’s great to live in a world that embraces strategy games. That’s certainly not always been the case, but games like Fire Emblem have shown that the appeal extends beyond the most niche. They can be big blockbusters as well as cool little diversions, you know, as long as they’re good.
