Preview: Daemon x Machina looks at the sacrifices players have to make

Daemon x Machina is going to be Nintendo’s major mech game for the Switch. In it, players get to create a pilot who will act as a mercenary and fight to protect innocent people. Well, part of it is to make the world a better place. It is also about becoming strong enough to survive and earning some money along the way by defeating the Immortals AIs that decided to consider humans enemies after the moon fell. But what the demo is good at even pointing out early on is how the game shows the sacrifices made in the name of power.

The Langrisser series has had something of a spotty track record outside Japan, but it was a long-running series domestically, and its fans have been seeking a worthy follow-up for nearly two decades. 2019 is set to be a big year for the Langrisser, with two big projects pushing the franchise back into the spotlight: a remake of the first two titles and an ambitious mobile installment launching worldwide soon. Preview: Shining Resonance Refrain tries to keep its characters active

It has been quite some time since a Shining game was released outside of Japan. Sega has been keeping the series alive, but our last exposure to it was Shining Force EXA on the PlayStation 2. (Unless, of course, you count the spin-off Blade Arcus from Shining: Battle Arena.) Shining Resonance Refrain is another chance and fresh start for folks. It is an opportunity to see what has been happening with the series while it has been on its hiatus. And, as far as early impressions go, it appears to maintain a certain feeling that keeps familiar elements in mind.

Preview: Sushi Striker is fast food

Nintendo and indieszero have a new game in the pipeline! Sushi Striker: The Way of Sushido, a title involving matching colored sushi plates and flinging them at opponents, will be coming to both the 3DS and Switch. Now that a demo for the console version is on the eShop, it is possible to get a glimpse of the first chapter. While it only allows us to see Musashi’s first few matches as a Sushi Striker, it gives a good idea of the game’s structure and pace.
