The best encore releases of 2016

Was Frank Sinatra right? Is love lovelier the second time around? When it comes to these rereleases, that statement is absolutely true. I mean, we certainly enjoyed playing all of these classic games again.

Best Encore of 2016: Sega 3D Classics Collection

We live in a world full of re-released classic games, but no one does it better than M2. Classics Collection showcases some of its best work in a wide array of genres, enhancing old Sega games but making sure it’s the original code that takes center stage. – Graham

Runner-up: Dragon Quest VII

Given Dragon Quest VII‘s rarity and levels of popularity, there’s a good chance people didn’t get a chance to play the game when it first appeared on the PlayStation in 2001. Fortunately, the Nintendo 3DS allows you to remedy that, with an updated version of the game that looks and plays better. It’s an amazing 80+ hour JRPG. – Jenni

Runner-up: Valkyria Chronicles Remastered

Valkyria Chronicles Remastered‘s enhancements aren’t really with technical specs or content, but rather with a more widely-available release to an audience that’s better prepared to appreciate it. It’s one of 2016’s best games while being virtually indistinguishable from its initial release almost a decade ago, and that’s a feat that deserves recognition. – Graham
